Left-click's web development process

Step 1: The Research
In order to provide you with web designs that are suited to your specific needs, we need to first understand what those needs are. Who is your target audience? How will you attract them? WIll your content be static or will you be updating? Will you have users registering and adding information? Are you selling products, or promoting a service? What is the ultimate goal of your website?
Once we've finished quizzing you, we'll be ready to sit down and create some plans that will put the project's requirements in focus, as well as provide a timeline and price quote.
If you aren't sure exactly what you need, or you've got a complicated project, left-click offers a Request for Proposal (RFP) Development Service. We'll work with you extensively to determine precisely what your web design needs are. Then we'll draft you an RFP to easily obtain accurate quotes from us and other Web Development firms.

Step 2: The Drawing Board
Now that we've gathered all the information we can on your project, it's time to start developing. The first part of this step is building a site map, which keeps the project focused and determines how links and pages of your site will interconnect.
At this point one of our in-house graphic artists will work with you to create mock-ups for what your site will look like. Depending on the scope of your project based on your initial quote, you may receive several options from which to choose. With your edits these initial designs will be perfected into one sleek, professional website design that you will be proud to show off.

Step 3: The World Wide Web
While the designer is putting the finishing touches on the design for your website, several things need to be done in order to get your website a home online. You'll need to purchase your domain name, or web address. This is a simple and cheap process that left-click will gladly do for you.
You will also have the option of using left-click's hosting services, which we strongly recommend in most cases. Our servers are built to meet the needs of most sites and deliver the power you need.

Step 4: The Building Phase
At this point those wonderful designs the designer has created for you will be sent to a left-click website developer, who will take those static images and make them into a fully functioning website on a test server. All features will be developed during this step, but not fully tested until step 5. A simple website will take around one week or two weeks to develop. More complex websites can take between one to three months, and very complex websites can take longer. We offer rush services, when time is a factor, but we are generally very fast.

Step 5: Going Live
Before the official launch, your website will be tested to make sure all links are functioning and that the site works in all browsers. left-click will create new users, test product purchases (if it is an online store), upload content, test forms and run through any and all other features thoroughly. You will also be invited to test the site out yourself.
When we're satisfied that all the bugs are taken care of and your site runs flawlessly, we will make your site live in a matter of minutes. If necessary, we can be in contact with you while this is happening. Various parts of the website will be tested again and any issues will be fixed.

Step 6: Maintenance, Upgrades and New Features
Left-click will generally develop solutions to allow you to maintain your own content. However, it is strongly recommended that you routinely upgrade your Content Management System, as well as update and improve your site in other ways to attract new visitors. As technology evolves, so should your website.
It is important to add new features to your website as they become available, in order to compete with others on the web. Adding new features and updating your website will be entirely new processes, which can result in bugs or issues in site performance. left-click will create a copy of your website on a test-server, where you and left-click developers can test everything out before making the changes live.
